This is one of my favorite things my Mom makes. Beware, you will get messy!
Here is the process.
Chopped peppers and onions
Cooked and drained ground beef and sausage
(Note: I will put exact measurements at the end of this post. I am also making a double batch, but will be putting the measurements for a single batch).
Saute your peppers and onion in a pot big enough to hold entire mixture.
Add in the meat and mix well.
Add in your water, tomato sauce and paste, parmesan cheese, and seasonings.
Mix well, and simmer for 10 mins.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees, and get a pan and place foil on the whole surface.
Cut your bread in half lengthwise.
Scoop out a little of the bread. Note: I scooped out a little too much, so just get a little out. Also, the bread you scooped out can be used for meatloaf or you can freeze it for future use.
Line the bottom with half of the mozzarella cheese.
Scoop the meat mixture onto the bread.
Top the meat mixture with the rest of the cheese.
Top it with the other side of bread, wrap it tightly in foil, and bake for 6-8 mins or until warm.
Makes 1 loaf
1 lb sausage
1/2 lb ground beef
1 c onion,chopped
1/2 c chopped pepper
8 oz tomato sauce
6 oz tomato paste
1/4 c water
1/4 c grated parmesan cheese
1/4 tsp oregano leaves
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp rosemary
2 c Mozzarella cheese
1 loaf French bread
Brown your meat, and drain it. Saute onion and peppers in a pot, big enough for the entire mixture.
Stir in meat, tomato sauce, tomato paste, water, parmesan cheese, and seasonings.
Mix well, and simmer for 10 mins. Heat oven to 400 degrees. Cut bread lengthwise, and scoop out the inside. Line the bottom with mozzarella cheese, then fill the bread with meat mixture. Top with the rest of the cheese. Put both sides together, and wrap in foil. Bake for 6-8 mins. Enjoy!
